Embury - Strip District Speakeasy

I can now say that I have finally ventured to Embury - a 1920’s prohibition-era styled bar in the Strip District. It’s on the first floor of the Firehouse Lounge, and I must say I was highly impressed with the venue. After reading about it several months back in the local paper, I’ve been wanting to head down there for some time. Friday presented the prime opportunity, as several friends were already headed there for some cocktails.

I met up with Todd & Craig, and four other friends even showed up on their way to dinner down the street on Penn. I let the bartender know my appreciation of brown liquors, namely bourbon, and let him choose my first drink. I ended up with a Fall Manhattan, with homemade bitters, a few medicine-drops of Ardbeg scotch, Buffalo Trace bourbon, along with other mystery ingredients. The results was a dry Manhattan with a touch of peat & smoke, and was quite delicious. Kaley’s first drink had St. Germain and a million other things in it, and was equally delicious.

Throughout the night we sampled various drinks, including the Sazerac, properly prepared Absinthe, a Sidebar with Absinthe, Blood & Sand and a few others. The decor was pretty decent, and the staff was knowledgeable and friendly as long as you were friendly in the first place. At one point in the night I heard someone say to the bartender “I’m ready to order” which got a quick reply of “I’m not ready for your order” :)

If you’re a true cocktail fan, you gotta stop by this place.
